Hollywood is a rotten place , and I guess their motto always been conform or be gone . So this is nothing new . I understand her firing from a business point of view because she's been a headache to lucasfilm and in a franchise like the Mandolorian they can afford to do without her . If anyone is interested in exploring a different point of view on this subject i recommend reading this article in NY MAG

Haha I knew this article was going to be by Jonathan Chait before I clicked on it. He's constantly more worried about the dangers of political correctness than about solving real problems in our society.

Plus this he had this all time bad take in 2016:

  • Hmmm, what's the difference between McCarthyism and people getting fired for saying dumb evil shit on social media. HMMMM. I wonder if there's a clue in the name somewhere. McCarthy. He was just a hollywood exec, right? He definitely wasn't part of the government, putting pressure on companies with the backing of the US government, and having governmental hearings about it. Nope. He was just a private company actor.

  • To address Gina's question: The difference is your political stances are something you espouse.  Something you control.  Something you can choose.  Being Jewish is not.  It is immutable. It's outside of your control.
  • Depends on who you ask. I’m pretty sure this is still like a real academic discussion. Is Judaism a race, religion, something else, etc?

Regarding cancel culture I don’t know. I don’t think I’ve seen too many instances of real good people getting fucked over.

I mean the Dixie chicks for example. They had to know who their fanbase was. Southern families that were extremely patriotic and voted red. So what do they do? Call out the president. Dumb business move. You lose. Don’t really feel sorry for them in the sense they lost million dollar gigs. Death threats though? Yea that’s too far for what they said.

I was watching Harold and Kumar go to White Castle and there’s a part in there with a wisdom bomb. A character says “the universe tends to unfold as it should” or something close to that. Outside of the former president it doesn’t seem really anyone whether they are red or blue can be a real sick right now and keep their job.

I am close friends with two Jewish atheists/agnostics. Only "religion" where I've met self-identified members that openly believe against it. Then again, it also has a whole subset that fully believes in and hates god because of The Holocaust.
