Criterion Collection

I’ve finally decided to begin my Criterion Collection…collection…and was wondering if anyone else had one or has dabbled.

Barnes & Noble currently has a giant 50% off sale right now online (and I assume in-store as well), with free shipping if you have a store nearby through November 29.

The idea I’ve always had once I started collecting is that I would buy 2 blu-rays a month, but since this sale is going on I’ve decided to do 4 this month and 4 next month.

This months picks:

Parasite (Bong Joon-ho)
Memories of Murder (Bong Joon-ho)
Portrait of a Lady on Fire (Céline Sciamma)
In the Mood for Love (Wong Kar-wai)

Next months picks for right now are:

Onibaba (Kaneto Shindo)
Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters (Paul Schrader)

And that’s where I’ve kinda left it for now. Anyone have some recommendations of anything that you have or know personally?

  • It seems the World Of Wong Kar Wai set has encoding errors causing the movies to skip or freeze.

  • I don't know about Blu Ray, but I have/had a bunch of DVDs and they were great.  Among others, I had a Kurosawa box set and a John Woo set that were both great.  The added features, bonus disks etc were SO worth paying for, tons of added value.

I’m definitely going to get all the Kurosawa stuff, but I’ll probably do all of that in one run at some point.

I once sent a submission for them to get The Great Race. It wasn’t out on dvd at that time. They sent me back a e mail on why they couldn’t and thanks for the submission.
The last on I bought was Breaker Morant.
If I asked them again for a film I would ask them for Edge of Darkness 1943 with Errol Flynn.

I double dipped and ended up getting the 4K versions of Mulholland Drive and Citizen Kane. If anyone is interested in my blu-ray. They've barely been looked at, but have been opened. Just shoot me a message and we can figure out the rest.
