Better Call Saul Season 6: potential spoilers!

The final season will be split into 2 parts. The first 7 episodes will begin April 18. Thankfully, the last 6 will come soon after on July 11. Essentially, they’re just taking a month long break.

In a teaser, Gene walks by a bulletin board and pulls down a WANTED sign for Saul Goodman. To the bottom-right of the poster, you can see an announcement for some group (or something) in Albuquerque. Does that mean Gene has to go back to Albuquerque for some reason? Possibly to save Kim?

There’s also an ad for a charity softball game for victims of domestic violence. No idea what that means… but they seem to be intentional with those details.

  • So… this seems to be Gene putting on one of Saul’s flamboyant coats in the Season 6 poster, right? Is Jimmy coming back to Albuquerque from Omaha to settle some business?

I can’t wait. And it’s been so long I’m going to watch the last episode of the last season as a refresher. Maybe there’s something on YouTube that gives a synopsis of everything that’s happened. And speaking of… Finally watched the movie Nobody and it was really good.

  • Major SPOILER!!

It’s (officially) official… Walt & Jesse will make an appearance in the final season. While I was excited to hear this… I was also kind of bummed. Try to imagine how awesome it would’ve been to be watching live (without knowing they were coming) and to see them. Oh well… those days are pretty much over. Everyone will do almost anything possible for buzz to drive up ratings.

So is this just an AMC thing? Breaking up seasons and spoiling their own show? They do this with the walking dead, it’s so frustrating.

The breaking up of seasons might be unique to AMC... but spoiling their own content... that seems to be part of a broader phenomenon.

There are so many outlets for entertainment... priority number one for channels and/or streaming services seems to be drumming up buzz for their content... even though what would be best for their most hardcore fans would be to keep some secrets.

So frustrating that this is how business is done these days. I know people go on media blackouts for stuff they are excited about. But avoiding something like this is virtually impossible.

  • Prediction: the show will end with Gene going to Albuquerque to settle some sort of business… it will transition from black and white to color at some point as he travels from Omaha to Albuquerque.

*pushes all his internet points into the middle of the table.

  • Wasn’t it Peter Gould that revealed it, not AMC?

True… *but* I’d think that this is the type of thing that was discussed and decided on by committee. Or… it came from the top down that they were going to let it slip and they just let Gould do it. Almost immediately after he did, it was all on the official BB and BCS social media feeds and what not.

Thats obviously speculation on my part, but it’s where I’d place my bet.

No! I’ve just been working on a book about the show (available for pre-order!) for the last year, so I’m both emotionally and financially invested. :)

  • In the montage of Saul's house being seized, you can clearly see a copy of H.G. Wells' The Time Machine. It also appears briefly in the next episode.

In The Time Machine, a time traveler goes far into the future where the human race has evolved into 2 different species: the Eloi (graceful, almost childlike beings) and the Morlocks (a human-like people who have devolved to almost having a caveman status). The Eloi live above ground where all of future-earth is an idyllic, graden-like paradise. The Morlocks live below ground, toiling in darkness to make the Eloi life possible. However, every once in a while a Morlock comes to the surface on a moonless night to abduct an Eloi.

What does this mean for Better Call Saul? Are Jimmy and Kim Morlocks in this analogy... trying to "pick off" Howard (an Eloi type if there ever was one) under the cover of darkness? Kim and Jimmy aren't exactly troglodytes like the Morlocks, but they do fit the bill in other ways. They both come from a much lower class than Howard. The type of work they (and others) do make Howard's lifestyle possible. Similar to the Eloi/Morlock dynamic in the novel, Kim and Jimmy's struggles have made them stronger and more cunning, where Howard's easy life may have made him soft enough to allow Kim and Jimmy to overtake him.

Is this what the writers were going for? Is there some other angle (i.e. theme, prediction, analogy) they could have had in mind?

I thought the same! What a way for Nacho / Michael Mando to go out. I’m surprised they took him off the board this early… we’ll see what the rest of the season has in store.

I mentioned it on Discord. but I honestly have no investment in the cartel storyline at this point. I wonder what else there is left to tell at this point. Maybe some tangential strings to tie things up, but how much story is there left? If they just focus on Jim/Kimmy at this point, I am totally fine with it.

That was really something. No wonder Jimmy moves out of that apartment and gets a house.
