Crime documentary series recommendations

I've just binged Wild Wild Country, a gem of a doco.

Any good  crime multi episode series recommendations?

Have seen The Jinx, MaM, West of Memphis.. anything like that would be great!

  • "The Staircase" and "Imposter" are both worth checking out.

  • HBOs Paradise Lost trilogy is really good. It sounds like you may have watched a West Memphis Three doc already, but this ones really good.
  • Mindhunter is good if you are cool with a “based on a true story” fictional series. Also the Keepers is good.

@wasi  are you into True Crime series, the Crimes that Shook Australia series is pretty decent. Its a little like TV version of the Casefile podcast but it has always been interesting viewing. I know its on Foxtel but you might also be able to find it elsewhere

Plus as its a new case each episode if you aren't really feeling it you can just skip it

Cheers - will check it out @davemcb

Couldnt get into the Casefile podcast tho.. the Aussie accent threw me off. Maybe I listen to too many US podcasts.

I'll second The Staircase. It has all the drama of Making a Murderer.

@wasi I'm not sure its just the accent but also the cadence he talks in that doesn't seem right. Listen to it at X1.2 or X1.5 and its a little easier a listen

It also makes me think is that what I would sound like on a podcast

I like the Casefile guy - I’m always a bit ehhhh about true crime stuff when it’s “entertaining” (couldn’t handle Serial with its jolly plinky music bits and whatnot), so his stripped back style appeals to me and makes me feel like I’m being edjumacated rather than getting my kicks listening to a story about a murder.

Also, it's a feature documentary rather than a series, but the experience of watching Dear Zachary is something that I will never, ever forget.

If you want another cult doc I recommend"Holy Hell" on Netflix.

For my money, I think the Jinx, The Keepers, O.J. Made in America, The Imposter, Team Foxcatcher, The Thirteenth, and the Act of Killing are some of the best crime docs ever made.

I must be the only crime junkie ever that couldnt get into The Staircase... : /  The personality and motives of that guy just did not interest me at all.

Didn't like serial @Dee ?? (I reckon I'm the only one that liked season 2 so much better).

Next you'll tell me something crazy like you don't like pineapple on pizza.

@wasi Be gone with your filthy pineapple!
