Mindhunter season 2

No trailer but Netflix just announced a release date of August 16 and put out some promo photos. I really liked season 1 and recall there were a few on here that also did (even though the Bald Move head honchos never covered it). David Fincher is back to direct the premiere and finale again! Who else is excited?


Also - it's a gonna be big year for Damon Herriman aka Dewey Crow!

    I enjoyed it, but the material (Atlanta Child Murders) was tough. Can't say enough good things about Holt McCallany. It's interesting how they are handling BTK.

    Am I trippin, or was that scene in episode 7 where Holden is running around with the white cross the strangest scene in any tv show?

    That's so funny you mention it.  I still have no idea what was happening there, or why it was filmed the way it was.  This show definitely isn't perfect, as I find there are some strange choices made in scenes like that or even entire subplots.  I'm not really a true crime or serial killer fan (odd that those even exist), but it's definitely the acting in those interrogation scenes that brings me back to this show.  That's where it shines, I think.

    Oh yea, overall I’m loving this season. It was just that scene that seemed so out of place lol

    I really liked the season, took so much willpower to not google the Atlanta stuff, and not doing so made the show so much better, I had heard about the whole situation on a podcast one time, but totally forgot all the details, if I knew the outcome I don't know if I would have liked it as much. but its good either way.

    I was happy they seemed to make everyone else primary this season. Ford is almost my least favorite character.  In terms of BTK it's wild they introduced him at the end of season one and it made me feel like season two would be all BTK. But he's still out there at the end and most of the time was spent elsewhere. It's interesting how Ford's profile template is evolving and BTK seems to be another step.

    Yeah, his obliviousness to the situation was evident, and I've read that the grainy footage was to make the audience consider it as an actual historical event or whatever, but it wasn't clear to me what the optics and social implications were supposed to be.  Was it super-awkward and inappropriate because he was making that moment all about himself and his dumb plan, or was it awkward because he looked like a klan member running around with that cross, lol?  The reactions he got from everyone around him made that ambiguous to me.

    Ford just seems like a generic, poorly-adjusted whiz kid compared to Tench, who always seems THIS CLOSE to collapse or going on his own rampage.

    The show is planned for three more seasons; covering BTK may involve some changes in the show's format.

    Yea dude haha I thought he was going to get jumped because I’m sure that entire procession didn’t know that the FBI was supposed to set up crossed, it was supposed to be put on by the victims families. So here’s this white dude frantically running through a crowd of black people and I’m sure they were very concerned.

    I think we as an audience were supposed to feel both, but I suspect a lone Klan member would not have made it very far in that crowd.  Someone more normal than Ford might have looked at the solemn marchers and decided to take the cross a different route, walk it along the periphery of the march instead of running through the crowd, or have asked the crowd to help him get the cross to where it needed to go so it became part of the event instead of a disruption.

    Perhaps the writers feel each season they need to have Ford demonstrate a certain number of times that he's out of touch in dramatic fashion.

    Dang some of you guys are some serious power bingers!  We just finished ep 4!  I'm typing this squinty eyed so I dont catch any spoilers in here!

    SPOILER-filled angry review to follow:
    Finally finished episode 9 (?). This season felt like a different, shittier show.  Focusing on a single investigation was not a good idea, and didn't play to the show's strengths, which were the interactions between the three main characters and their interactions with psychopaths.  I genuinely believe this was an 8 episode season and Netflix made them add that dumb Manson episode just to get the headlines.  I won't speculate as to their reason for doing so.  But the investigation in the latter half of the season doesn't work at all.  It's mostly absolutely stupid and badly done.  There's a scene where they're tailing their suspect in an idiotically conspicuous line of 5 cars AFTER a lengthy scene in which they've planted a tracking device on his car.  It broke me.  Fuck this show.  And then, in the final ten minutes, we get this twist where there's actually three murderers and the APD is covering for them????  We never see these other two suspects during the season.  How about, I don't know, have your female protagonist ALSO in Atlanta, you know, actually doing shit?  Perhaps offering a foil to lame-ass leading man Holden as she postulates that these other two guys were involved and he argues that it was one man.  Maybe actually build to your climactic moment, your plot twist?  The whole B-plot with Tench, I don't even want to talk about, likewise the ham-fisted attempts at saying something about racial politics.  I didn't like this season at all.  8/10

    Anyone else catch Wayne at the site search a few episodes in? I know a lot about The Atlanta Child Murders and clocked it immediately just because the actor looked so much like him. I like how the show didn't go back and explicitly reference it in any kind of hokey flashback or anything.
