The Walking Dead is actually ending...but wait, more spin-offs.

https://www.comingsoon.net/tv/news/1147973-the-walking-dead-to-end-with-expanded-season-11-daryl-carol-spinoff-to-follow

While I have enjoyed S9 and S10, I'm not sure what to think of this news. Additional shows and of course the supposed Rick movies... is there an audience for all of this?! Thoughts??

  • WHY IS SCOTT GIMPLE STILL INVOLVED

  • Can't wait for the Daryl and Carol show "Bike and Bake"

Overall it seems a smart move:
    1) Spin off a show with the two most popular remaining characters allowing them to continue some continuity for returning characters, story arcs, etc.

    2) Have an anthology show to allow for different settings, characters, and much more freedom in getting rid of characters/groups than they had on the old shows, almost like it was set in a ZA and lots of people die.

  • AMC is going to continue their cash cow franchise until it literally costs more than it makes. The only baffling decision here is why Scott Gimple hasn’t been fired for almost running two TWD series into the ground. He must have some serious dirt on AMC Execs or something.

  • I'm optimistic about the future of the "deadverse"

I mean, yeah there have been some really bad seasons of TWD and FTWD, but some really good stuff as well. The bones of the world are pretty solid, and there's a whole lot of room for interesting characters, situations and drama.

I'm just glad that this "zombie" narrative isn't dipping into the "there are mutant zombies with special powers" sorta stuff that most narratives get into.

They are just dead and shambling corpses that don't ever seem to really die unless they get a hatchet to the skull.

This is enough for some really great drama/horror, and we don't need them sneaking around and spitting acid on everyone

  • Given "late 2022" and thus after April, I guess I didn't nail it, but given that I made the call in April of 2018 I still think I should get a few internet points for my goofy prediction.

  • With these extended seasons and spin-offs, what is everyone's thoughts about the potential movies? I mean, the Daryl and Carol roadshow could be what potentially kicks off the movies. But assuming that is not the case, would you rather just have Rick return to the series or proceed with the movies according to plan?

I'd rather have Rick stick to the movies. The show's been fine without him, Andrew Lincoln presumably left the show for valid reasons, and if the movies are sufficiently disappointing perhaps Gimple will move on from AMC/TWD.

I wonder if a few of the TWD cast will cross over to FTWD. Another thing, I’m not fussed on Daryl in a lead role tbh he’s not that great an actor.

RE: Movies.. meh people will have forgotten so much by the time Rick shows his face.

One more thing- No MOTHER would leave her child like Michonne has done after losing one. I know in our day and age mums go off to work or get deployed, but this a zombie apocalypse. Left with no mum or dad. I’m not buying it for her son TJ. Judith I can kinda agree on as she’s older. And I hate fucking Scott Gimple.

I dare them to title the series finale "The Walking End"

  • Can we talk about how Jim & A.Ron effectively killed the show? Watching Dead comes back and *BOOM*. Shit’s canceled.

I think the movies could definitely have some potential, this universe seems like it would benefit from shorter form story telling unless under the wing of Angela Kang. I'm not one who cares much for spoilers on this show, but some of the things I hear coming out of Fear are pretty wild in terms of "world rules". It sounds like they are changing things up in a way that is going to make this universe look and feel different. The old days of running around in the woods killing the undead is just so stale at this point that they really don't have a choice but to mix things up. I have absolutely no interest in The Walking Dead Beyond which they are trying desperately to create syndication by dangling the finale in front of us until October, but word on the street is that the movies and some of these other series will be interconnected.
