Is it even a hot take to say that Push It by Salt N Peppa is in essence twice as long as it should be? I mean, that riff is killer, the "ah-push it" breaks are catchy and cool, and the like 8 bars of rapping that happens are really good, but man that's a great two minute well that they go to for 4 1/2. C'mon SP&S. Once it devolves into that "you really got me" section it's just kind of a "you guys are just making more song for the sake of making more song aren't you?" type of situation.
aaaaaannnnd now Salt n Peppa will be stuck in my head all weekend. thanks alot @Travis

PIVOT: Real Raw from Dr. Octo shuffled up "gerbils for rectums, I'll break you off like Richard Gere" is a fantastic line.

i'm listening to Okkervil River - Black Sheep Boy. can't believe it's 15 years old! it def still holds up.
Trip out. Come Back I am Waiting just shuffled up a song or two back. I hadn't heard it in ages either. It's a really fantastic record. I really enjoy the Appendix too. They're awesome.
Have you seen the live version of For Real that they did for some radio show and switched up the vibe a bit (more so played it straighter by way of the beat). It's pretty cool. Funny how much just a minor beat shift can change it. They also shifted the dynamics a bit, kind of flattened out the punches. I definitely prefer original recipe, but I enjoyed the new take on it.

@Univ3rsalmind Nice! I'm really becoming more and more solid in the fact that he's the best songwriter I've ever heard. Giving a fresh look to some of the lyrics to the songs... damn. He was just a goddamn wizard. Such a gift for metaphor and analogy. Such a gift for straightforward honesty too. He's the best!
@cdrive Trip out. I'm super interested to what these covers will sound like. Definitely going to be checking that one out. Thanks for the heads up, buddy!
This one shuffled up just now and I'm so pumped. Haven't heard this one in years and it's so goddamn good! FIREHOSE!
EDIT: I know I've probably said this 100 times in here, but I totally love this Department of Eagles record, In Ear Park. I actually would slot it above anything Grizzly Bear ever did and I have a lot of love for Grizzly Bear.
That of course led into a deep dive into the Alabama Shakes, who I've listened to a few times before but never dug in deep. Played most of Sound & Color. I have to say I have a new appreciation for this band.
Fell down an Oingo Boingo rabbit hole, being Halloween and all. Anyone that shits on Elfman’s musical prowess can GTFO.
I’d never seen this particular concert video before, but man... this is peak Elfman/Boingo. Everything about this is just so impeccable from a performance standpoint. Such a tight band with incredible, mostly underrated musicians.
New release last Friday from Cass McCombs......typical Cass...this song is haunting, magical, amazing.
I was listening again just now for a quick drive to get a Topo Chico w/ twist of lime, and a redbull since it's a beautiful day. Maybe it's the exhaustion and also waiting to see if a Federal Judge in Houston is going to throw out my vote, but I got a little choked up when it got to "vote for Breonna Taylor, vote for George Floyd". Hauntingly hopeful and with a beautiful day juxtaposed with my extreme frustration right now hitting F5 following @RMFifthCircuit Raffi Melkonian on the court hearing....
Hi everybody. If you're ever in the mood to do a really over-think-y, but super gratifying from the standpoint of having a great excuse to pour over a bunch of music that you love, do a Top 50 (or however many) songs but with the wrinkle that you can only use the same band once. You can use an artist that's in multiple bands multiple times (for instance, you could have 4 entries with Lou Barlow (solo, Sebadoh, Folk Implosion, and Dino Jr.). I finished mine recently to do this twitter countdown thing, and it was totally fun and way, way overwrought. I recommend it for a silly tunes project.

wow dude! i'm doing something similar. when the pandemic started back in March i started a Top 100 Playlist 'Project'. i could only use 1 band per song (so essentially 100 bands). after picking the songs, my next step was telling a story (with the songs I chose) and making sure each song seamed perfectly into the next. so after like 80ish songs i realized i wanted to break it down into 2 Top 50 Playlists that was like an old school cassette, A Side and B Side. I then changed the rules where i could chose 2 songs per band, 1 song on the A side (which tells the story) and 1 Song on the B Side (which is like the cutting room floor footage in a movie). 8 months later I have my 50 bands, 100 Songs, and most of Side A in the 'perfect' order (this part is the hardest). anyways, yeah that's been my music nerd 'project' haha. hope that made sense.

Also, for any Bay Area people old enough to remember the Steve Masters mixes on Live105, this totally reminds me of those.
