Stop and Watch Movies

DeeDee Adelaide

You know how it is - you’re lying on the couch trying to work up the energy to get up and go to bed. You’re mindlessly flicking through channels, not looking for something to watch, just seeing what’s out there. And then you see that movie and it started 20 minutes ago and you think, ooh, this is a good one, I’ll just watch to the next ad, and an hour later you’re still there on the couch.

So what is that movie (or those movies) for you? The ones you’ve probably seen half or three quarters of seventeen times but only seen the start once or twice.

Mine (that I can recall at this moment):

Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion

School Of Rock

Bend It Like Beckham

The Wedding Singer

Miller’s Crossing

Galaxy Quest

Same, although I've never seen any of the Cornetto trilogy on TV here in the US. Of course, I also haven't watched non-streaming TV outside a hotel room in.....3-4 years?

    Die Hard

    Alien(s)

  • The Big Short was playing frequently on Pluto TV a while back and I kept jumping in, for some reason that movie always grabs me. Has so many great scenes and performances.

Seconding the John Hughes love that @CretanBull shouted out.
Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Some Kind of Wonderful... I love it all.
Other than that:  When Harry Met Sally, You've Got Mail, Sleepless in Seattle (I love a good Meg Ryan romcom), Forrest Gump, Titanic.  Seasonally, any of the classic Christmas movies that TCM loves to air - Miracle on 34th St., White Christmas,  It's a Wonderful Life, etc.

We never get John Hughes movies on free to air TV.

I didn’t think about how with streaming a lot of people (like @asmallcat) don’t ever just flick channels around anymore either. I’m such an old person!

i'm def a channel surfer. the movies i named are flicks i usually stop on when i'm flipping through when they're on. tbh though i usually stop and park on the Food Network unless it's like a holiday baking show (which is on more than it should be).

-School of Rock, for sure. /fistbump/, @Dee
-Any LOTR excluding the Hobbit movies of course.
-Jurassic Park (only the 1st one)

    Seasonally:
    -It's a Wonderful Life
    -All Peanuts holiday specials
    -National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

And I'm loving the Joe Dirt fans in here. Same on  that.  That is one of my favorite terrible movies.

@Chinaski I always go to the food channel first if I’m just mindlessly flipping. We have too many of those competition shows on ours though, and I don’t like those. I just want to see someone in a kitchen making things.

If I'm trying to avoid doing something just about any movie will do.

"Oh look. It's xxx. I haven't seen that in forever. I'll only sit on the couch for 5 minutes. What's the harm."

Yeah, I used to see the first two on Comedy Central before I canceled cable. Never did see The World's End on there, but I'm throwing it in because I know I would.
