Love love love this movie and podcast. My only question is, isn't the rolled up magazine from one of the sequels? I'll have to re-watch, but I'm almost certain it's not this one.

Also loved the podcast, inspired me to watch it tonight! Its apparently on Peacock, which I have now discovered is free with ads.

Yea the magazine is from the second one. The guys made it sound like there was a big dropoff in quality when Greengrass took over, but I recall enjoying the 2 sequels and there are a lot of memorable parts just off the top of my head; Marie and Jason in India, said magazine fight, everything with Karl Urban including the car chase ARon mentioned, Brian Cox in the hotel, "Get some rest, Pam.", the extended cat and mouse / chase / fight in Tangier (that one stands out as the most brutal fight), and the London train station scene.

Also - @A_Ron_Hubbard ; - definitely watch Ronin. Excellent cast, a great heist movie - and brilliant car chase as your already aware of!
  • Also: ARon is absolutely correct about it being shitty that they fridged Marie in the opening of the second movie.

I thought the rolled up newspaper was a mismemory, but I'm not very confident on calling that kind of stuff out, because, ya know. Glad you enjoyed the podcast. I think there is an obvious drop off in quality in the hand to hand stuff, but the cover it up with expanded parkour, excellent car chases, and just an overall increase in the stakes. Perhaps I should have been more specific, because it's not like Ultimatum and Supremacy are bad, just a step down from Identity. I've seen BI like 10+ times, I've seen the other two about twice each.

  • If you all haven’t read the book, it’s incredible. I was shocked how different it is from the movie, the plots are wildly different. The female character is so much better in the books and Jason is a lot more sympathetic. I was absolutely blown away by it and for me it’s one of the best stand-alone books I’ve had the pleasure to read.

I just rewatched BI last night, the hand to hand definitely does stand out for it's quality, I think you're right. I'll probably rewatch BS and BU soon, so will be looking at the combat with a critical eye!

Damn, I would have sworn the rolled up newspaper or magazine was in the first movie. Did he roll up a Chinese Take out menu instead?

In the first one he uses a ball-point pen.
