I’m one of only a very select few that have a red roof so if you’re watching the news and see one it might be mine…haha

One of the owners of the most successful bars in Denton was so wasted I had to drive him home... Just so he could get his pit bull (sweetest dog on the planet and his name is Brucifer), come back, and proceed to walk into half the other downtown bars just to roll Yachtzee and take more shots. Eventually had to dump him and his dog into a local community leader's suv. Just so happened she pulled up as I was trying to get him back to his bar to get a ride home. She literally knows his dog by name. Ha ha.

Edit: Yachtzee is a racket where you pay a buck to attempt to roll 5 of a kind, and if you do, you win 90% of the dollars put in before. Literally watched people win several thousand dollars at dive bars you wouldn't go to the bathroom in. The Numbers Racket is very alive people, and now it's a drinking game!

I decided to take a drive east through the hills and along the rivers today.  It was a beautiful drive and it felt great to just get out of town for a little while - but it was *so* hot! :astonished:  For comparison, it was in the mid-60s where I live on the coast.

Where do I even start... What started as a trip to an ex's funeral (don't worry about me, I'm handling it well and the people I know from the funeral are as well. Celebration of life.) has turned into a guy's trip for the ages. Instead of driving, I ended up flying with one of the other guys on his client's Cirrus SR-22. Stayed in San Antonio last night and went to a Deftones tribute show, in addition to a discotech, and a lovely steakhouse. Now I'm in San Marcos with the rest of my funeral crew drinking shots of Hennessy and jamming Houston gangster rap in honor of the deceased (literally this accomplished lawyers two favorite things to do). The craziest part is, we found our last bar to end the night at:

That's insane!  For Portland???  It doesn't usually get that hot there, right?

I'm back home now, 58* and overcast.
    Bring back the sun!

We FINALLY get Freddy's origin story.
You can't tell me you didn't pull your name from that place!   If you didn't that's a huge coincidence. :p

Huge coincidence. Couldn't be purer. Seriously. I pulled my name from Freddy Cupples the golfer. It just used to abbreviate to FreddyC. Then became Freddy.

I went all Monica on my bathroom today.  Literally everything was either bleached or Ajax'd or Lysol Lemon Multi-Surface'd.  I'm wiped out and can't get the bleach smell out of my nose, but I might just have the cleanest bathroom in Humboldt County.  (It's the little things sometimes.)

  • @Michelle it's funny as adults how rewarding doing a deep clean on part of the house really is.

@Freddy that sounds like an amazing trip.

Right?  It was such a nice feeling stepping into the bathroom this morning and still getting that faint bleachy 'clean' scent.  Don't get me wrong, I clean my bathroom every weekend, but I seriously deep cleaned it yesterday.  But yeah, funny how these little things make a difference as you grow a bit older.

Just got Erasure tickets for February!
Meeting up with a couple of my best friends from the Bay Area who I haven't seen since Covid started - it's going to be amazing!

Man I so feel this. Can’t express enough how good it feels being post-vaxx’d and how doing a huge overhaul on the house uplifts you. In “The Before Times” having a big get together with friends was by far the biggest motivator to whipping the house in to tippy top shape. We finally had a post-vaxx’d hang out with old friends and it felt so good to have that motivation again. Maids came Monday but they can’t un-clutter clutterville, or move/do projects pushed in corners, breakdown boxes, move bikes and garage shit to the garage, move storage stuff into storage.

When it was all done I was like “oh wow it’s like we bought a new house.” My 9 yr old was like “it’s like a hotel!” And then to open that front door again, hug, even the “not big huggers” getting in there with extra squeeze and extra time.  5 little boys running around and playing. Adults encircled around the breakfast bar w/ cocktails and party food. The roar a group of pals who haven’t seen each other in person in forever. Adults going to the backyard to do bad habits. Cigarettes are bad but the conversations can be so good. Guys watching NBA playoff game. Eventually getting a Mortal Kombat 11 tourney going amongst adults with the kids separated in the boys room.

And then to wake up the next day, and though still looking like the place was hit by a party, to bask in the still overall super cleanliness of the house. So nice. So so nice.  I missed it.

  • Texas = border = cheap labour = cleaning services probably cost maybe $10 an hour there?

2 maids to clean for 4 hours. $80?

Sitting at my favorite bar watching the owners and bartenders go through their new insurance cards and health packages. Seriously, could not be happier to give these guys my business. They literally have benefits as bartenders and door guys. How many non-union privately owned bars do that!?

That’s funny. Cuz (according to expert Facebook economists) if the service industry started paying people a living wage and benefits the world would blow up. Or drinks would become $32 a beer…crazy how that didn’t happen!!

Thanks man! And I'm basically a 36 year old child. I never thought of Big Daddy, but that about sums it up. I could totally see myself accidentally having a kid show up one day as well. Lol.

+1 on the high ceilings and brick.  I've always loved that 'loft in an old building' design concept.
