Just putting some final touches up on my home theatre in the basement. It’s pretty sweet so I’ll share some pictures this weekend. Will never need to go to the movies again…
Awesome, I'm big into home audio/video so I look forward to seeing. Mines more a living room setup versus a standalone theater room but it's setup with a full 7.1.4 audio system. My latest addition was 3 seats with "Soundshakers" built in. Basically an AMC Dolby theater chair if you've been to one of those theaters.

Just running wire and making it look pretty at this point. Nice to have the day off today and get some shit done around the house.

Man, I need to kick it with Freddy. Living his best life in my neck of the woods. I just don’t have the time right now. We had storms for weeks here and it pushed a lot of my work back. Gonna be playing catch up through most of July.

But what made my day is that I’m off until next Thursday. I’m taking some days off for my birthday next week. I’m looking forward to waking up late and spending time with my family and close friends. Super low key this year, your boy tired!

I’m going to my cousin’s wedding which is roaring 20’s/ flapper style.  ‘Well I’ll just be wearing my black suit’, I thought. THENNN I remembered I got a shnazzy dinner jacket in “The Before Times” for a burlesque dinner show.  So I’m gonna go black suit in the chapel but then get a little more flamboyant for the reception. Also having a pretty good hair day. And wearing the roley for the cherry on top. Ya big guy is stylin’!

What size/brand/model TV & sound system do you have? I curious about upgrading, even though I probably shouldn't.

    LG 86 UN850 series LED 4k
Nakamichi Shockwave soundbar, 2 dual 10” speakers 2 Dolby subs

This is my first and hopefully only home theatre so we did it out.

Next on the list is across from this will be a pretty cool board gaming/DD gaming set up.

@Hatorian that setup is awesome and looks really nice. Love the Star Wars posters too. I'll have to try and get some pictures of my setup and post them sometime. My biggest pride and joy of my system is my subwoofer. SVS PB ULTRA 16. The thing is an absolute monster and weighs more than I do, it certainly does it's job.

    This one's a bit emotional.

So, I was having the worst day today - woke up with a migraine but had projects with deadlines today so still had to go to work. coffee and Tylenol didn't help, then an hour into my morning I had a large audit project handed to me by our auditor, of course due today.  A few other little things here & there really worked my nerves, and I was just in the crappiest mood.  Anyone who was in Twitch chat today for the guys' Working Wednesday 'Badass' thing can testify, lol (so sorry, y'all).  I left work in the *foulest* mood after realizing that I'm most likely going to need to go in and work on Saturday as well.  Then, on my way home, little things kept irritating me (no one letting me into the other lane despite my blinker being on, a guy cut me off to make a right turn from the left lane, someone doing like 25 in a 40 2 cars ahead of me, etc).  Just one of *those* days.  I still have a dull headache.

But - here is where it gets emotional.  One of my cousins (by marriage) has a niece who has an 18-year-old son.  2 weeks ago, that kid was in a major car accident.  He rolled his car twice and was thrown from the car (he wasn't wearing his seatbelt).  He's been in a medically induced coma for 2 weeks.  2 days ago, his mother was given some really sad news - 25% chance of regaining any consciousness at all, and 25% (edit: I think this % was actually higher) chance of life in a permanent vegetative state if he does regain consciousness.  I don't know this woman or her son, but I have been following along with all of her updates.  Tonight, as I was browsing my Facebook and thinking about how shitty my day was, I saw a video she'd posted.  She was speaking loudly and directly and told him to wiggle his toes again (apparently he had just done it prior to her filming).  He didn't respond.  She told him again to wiggle his toes for her.  No response.  She asked him a third time, "Come on, for Mom, I know you can do this, wiggle your toes."   And he moved his foot slightly to the left and moved his toes a very slight amount.

Here I was, thinking about how *my job* and every little petty thing after work was ruining my day and my mood.  Talk about putting things into perspective VERY quickly and with a very direct message.  I am *lucky* that I am alive, have all of my physical and mental capabilities, and that I have a *damn good* job that I get to go to every day with coworkers who treat each other like a small family, because that's what we've become to each other.  Here I was complaining about how I have to go to work on my day off on Saturday.  Do you know how fortunate I am to have that ability?  This kid is laying in a hospital bed *fighting* to come back and his mom has been by his side every moment that they will allow her to be, not knowing whether or not she is going to lose her son.  And then she gets a very promising, albeit small, but still powerful, miracle.

I'm not perfect so I'm not going to say "I'll never complain about anything petty again", but I will certainly try to take this moment tonight with me and remember it when I'm feeling challenged or like that gray cloud is above me.

(Again, to the Bald Move fam here who was in Twitch chat today, I am sooooo sorry I was such a crabby ass.)

Beautiful. Is that a 3-jaw self-centering chuck on a lathe? How do you your fixturing/workholding to not damage the wood or do you just chuck onto a scrap tail of wood you lop off when done?

I usually go with a mortise on bowls. I have cracked the wood but I go deep with the mortise. I have a dovetail tool that helps me keep the piece on the chuck. I used a tenon before but that has gone bad because I didn’t do a good bevel. Early on I did have pieces fly off and hit me. I have tried to be more safe and correct my mistakes. Also I use Nova 2 chuck which has four jaws.

Oooh baby. A self-centering 4-jaw chuck. I’m so used to 4-jaws being non-self-centering headaches. A dovetailed ID grip in a mortise with a bevel for safety if I understand correctly, nice.  Do commissions or just do personal hobby stuff?

I’m doing a few things(salsa platters) for friends but I’m trying to figure out. What to do with all the stuff I’ve done so far.

Should have posted this yesterday but I was too exhausted... I was out at a big car show all weekend with my 1974 AMC Gremlin along with my dad and his 70 Dodge Dart and brother with his 70 Chevrolet Chevelle. COVID cancelled pretty much all car shows last year and my passion was kind of fading. After a good weekend at the main car show we always put our cars in, the passion is still very much alive.
