I’ve done a big 180 on Trae. Not that I hated him before, but I’ve always enjoyed that the Mavs won the trade. He was always putting up stats but not winning, now he’s figured it out. Teammates that are made to play to his strengths with a coach that makes sense. I also love that he’s embraced his villain persona and used the hate to fuel his game. He’s fun as hell to watch too.
the biggest losers in that trade were the Kings haha. losers passed on both of em. how'd Marvin Bagley work out? ATL's formula reminds me alot of the GSW. makes sense considering Travis Schlenk and Larry Riley are running the show. and hot damn, Nate McMillan is coaching his ass off! really hope we get an ATL/PHX finals. that sounds hella fun!
Well @Noel y’all did also give up a 1st round pick which became Cam Reddish, but you know..I think both teams won. And the NBA definitely won with these 2 young superstars in the league.
speaking of Jason Kidd.. thoughts @Noel? looking like your next HC.
My initial thoughts are negative. Dude just seems to leave a bad track record everywhere he’s been. But the Nike guy as GM has me feeling more positive about everything going. It’s just a lot in such a short time. Same GM and HC for the past 10+ years and boom, everything is happening.
yeah, i've never been a fan of his head coaching career, and don't get why he keeps getting jobs (Kidd). tbh - he's always been kind of a bonehead going back to high school and college days which i remember following when i was in junior high/high school. then in the pro's he also had some demons. hope the guy can do a 360
I think he’s going to get a long leash here because of 2011 and I’m not here for that. We already did the same with the previous heads of this franchise. This group needs to have some pressure on them, and hopefully Luka’s contract is what does it.
The Ringer had an interesting article about Kidd for the Mavs and I had forgotten about all this... yeesh.
A team that just went through a well-publicized power struggle is
turning to a coach who turned his first job on the NBA bench into an attempted coup,
only to engineer his exit to another franchise after its failure. An
organization that just spent the past few years assuring, insisting that the sexual harassment, domestic assault, and misconduct
in its workplace and by team employees had been addressed at an
institutional level is now hiring a man who pled guilty in 2001 to the
abuse of his then-wife, who later detailed a history of “perpetual physical and emotional abuse” in a lawsuit against him.
...
Kidd has a reputation as a demanding and rigid coach,
though without the winning record to show for it. A few weeks before he
was fired from his last head-coaching job, with the Bucks, Kidd blamed his team’s struggles
on the youth of its roster. “I think when you, you know, become 25 or,
you know, in the 28 range, you tend to think about the game,” he said.
“We’re talking about kids that are thinking about trying to put the ball
in the basket.” The following season, those same kids won 60 games and
went to the Eastern Conference finals under Mike Budenholzer.
Jason Kidd just feels like fan service. Seems lazy to me.
ESPN app is live streaming a NBA draft combine scrimmage right now. Good chance to look at some guys. I want the Rockets to look at Greg Brown for their #23 or #24 pick….looking good today.
watching these playoffs and the Hawks i keep meaning to ask @cdrive about Clint Capela. how the heck did y'all manage to let that dude go (and a 2nd rounder) for peanuts?
I was so amped on him when we got him. Watched him in the summer league. He had Deandre Jordan-esque capability. He was a Euro stash and he said “hell no I’m coming to the states and forcing myself into the mix to play.” Killed it down in the Rio Grande Valley, got his opportunity and earned his big contract. I’m rooting for my fella, Capela. The Swiss Diss (tm c:\)
It was a move to a move but yeah it was sad to see Clint go. Caps, luxury tax, yada yada, all the Harden Paul Westbrook crap that put us in a bad spot. But we’re gonna be back in the mix of competing again sooner than later after the Harden-Westbrook nuclear bomb.
Yeah I’d be cool with the Clippers winning their first if it wasn’t for the recent history with the Mavs. Same reason I wanted the Raptors to win. I’ve experienced the first title and I wanted that for another fanbase.
looking at the teams that went to the playoffs in the West i’m not mad at the Suns (OG pick was DAL for my dude @Noel and some fam in TX). now i want Trae to get healthy (not sure how long it takes for a bone bruise to heal) and a PHX v. ATL random AF finals! these playoffs have been hella fun despite shitty injuries.
Mark Jackson and SVG are like real life janky versions of Statler and Waldorf.
I hate national broadcasts. The biggest moments in the team’s season are left to people who are in no way related to the city they’re in. The only exception is Breen, but c’mon the Knicks aren’t going deep into the playoffs. It’s not how the industry works, I get it. But man, imagine the local Suns commentators tonight!
Lost a lot of respect for Mr. 94 ft last night. On the flip side, so happy for the CP3 and The Suns. I just realized the NBA Finals line up exactly the same time I’ll be in Phoenix. It’s gonna be crazy! I’ll definitely watch a game at a hoppin’ sports bar and pick up some merch.
Holy shit that Pat Bev push. I turned the game off early last night so I missed it but that's about as aggressive as you can get without a closed fist.
'It’s the first time since 1983 that nobody
in the NBA Finals has been, or will be, a teammate of Shaquille O’Neal.
You read that correctly. Every title series from 1984 through 2020
featured at least one player who had been (or would eventually be)
teammates with O’Neal, a list that includes names like Greg Kite, John
Salley, Byron Scott, Steve Kerr, Leandro Barbosa, Danny Green and Matt
Barnes (along with everyone he played with on the 1995 Orlando Magic,
2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004 Los Angeles Lakers teams, and the 2006 Miami
Heat). Though there is one technicality at play here: Phoenix guard
Chris Paul and O’Neal were All-Star Game teammates.'

ps. Mavs still won the trade
pps. Edited to change 360 to 180
