So Judge trolls Altuve’s walk off by mocking his jersey modesty, insinuating the cheat thing. Then Altuve returns the favor with a 3-run walk off tonight and let’s his teammates tear his jersey off to reveal that tattoo people said didn’t exist. I saw a close up of the tattoo and it said hoes mad.
Sorry for the back to back hoe usage. I’m a hoe. The biggest hoe I know.
Went to our first Giants game since the pandemic on Saturday and it was great. I do remember those seats being a little bigger though, surely they have just gotten smaller and nothing else has happened the last year and a half.
boo! Matty O bounced in the first round by 1 HR. funny all the lower seeds in the first round advanced. Pete Alonso seems like such a shithead, such a douchy bro from Florida.
and while he got bounced in the first round i love that Ohtani swing! so effortless and powerful. it's no Ken Griffey Jr. beauty of a swing, but it's up there.
The home run derby was fun but 3 hours was a little much. I forgot how dragged out that thing was. Glad Ohtani pulled it together cause that was a brutal first minute and a half or so after watching what the other guys were doing. I don't envy how heavily scrutinized he is by the Japanese media, it's got to be so much pressure.
3 hours was def a bit much imo. but people love the long ball. apparently tickets to the HR Derby were more expensive than tickets to the actual All-Star game.

I agree it's way too long. First round always seems to be the best / must memorable, I think they should ditch the bracket and just have one round, see who can hit the most dingers in five minutes or something and call it a night. But they probably won't because why sell 1 hr of ad spots when you can sell 3!

Some kind of 1v1 showdown for the finals could be fun but they definitely don't need a whole bracket. Your score in the first round should count against the entire field, not just one arbitrary player they put you up against. Even if they want to keep the length you can add four more hitters instead of doing the second round. Everyone looked gassed after the first round anyway except Alonso who apparently can do this indefinitely.
Am I imagining it or was there a time when they had multiple people hit at a time for the derby? I might just be thinking about sports center or something where they showed it side by side.
i would prefer that they have a set number of pitches (like 30 pitches) rather than timers. Mancini got credit for a pitch that was thrown after the timer expired and he ended up winning by 1. also, instead of bracket seeding i'd prefer they just all battled each other as a whole. first round the top 4 advance, second round the top 2 advanced, and the 3rd and final round you have a 1v1 showdown. get on that Rob Manfred!
I preferred how it was in the 90s. You got 10 outs (any swing that didn't result in a HR was an out). I think there was only 1 round too, so whoever had the most Homer's won. Easy peasy Japanese.
If they'd introduce fielding and pitching competitions as well, that'd be awesome. At least until a pitcher fucked up their arm or shoulder during one.
some of my favorite memories in life were the summers of 5th grade till 8th grade. almost every day we would meet up and play HR Derby behind a backstop at the local middle school that we called 'Our Green Monster'. 6 innings, 3 outs per inning, no HR and it was an out. if you didn't hit it passed the pitcher it was a no-hitter (those were very rare haha).
i can still remember my lineup and 3 pitchers +my 'reliever':
I also think the HR Derby was best in the 90s. Griffey Jr '98 stands out in my mind.
In other news, the Red Sox start the second half of the season with another win against the Yankees, haha. Plus there is finally a new episode of the Poscast out (anyone else listen? It's great if you like Mike Schur and baseball) - good start to the weekend!
Rangers blown out again, score looks like a Cowboys game after the 1st quarter
This season has been such a disappointment to say the least. The only reason I would go is if Gibson is starting. Gallo heating up as García is cooling off, both still meh seasons overall. I guess the new stadium is the main draw.
@Noel - everytime i watch the A's in Arlington i get so distracted on people watching the folks behind home plate (looks like a restaurant) just having a great time and not paying attention to the game

VERY distracting. I’m not even that mad at the stadium, my friends who have gone to the game said it’s a good time despite the bullshit. I just can’t justify spending that much time/money to go out there. Arlington is 30 min from me w/o traffic. Plus it’s west so the sun is right in your face the entire drive. Horrible drivers in Arlington too, don’t get me started on DFW traffic and drivers.
Crazy Sox-Yanks game tonight - Red Sox basically won due to a bunch of wild pitches in the 10th inning. Yankees blew a 3-1 lead in the 9th. Check out the win probably graph!
Dodgers fans and the general MLB media acting like the Dodgers got screwed last night on that checked swing as if he shouldn't have already been walked after they missed a ball like six inches off the plate earlier.
Can we just do robot umpires? Wouldn't it be more fun if pitchers could paint the corners without worrying what the guy behind the plate feels like calling today? I get that human error is part of the game but I want the human part to come from the players. It's dumb that every person watching the game has a better idea of what the call should be than the umpire.
It's awesome that Cleveland changed their name, but their new name and logo are just awful.
FWIW the guardian statues they named them after are really cool. It's good they picked something that means something to the city but it sounds like a generic team name from an unlicensed game or something.

That's exactly what it sounds like...that and a British newspaper.
I like that they did it. And I like how it’s related to the city and that they at least tried. It’s just going to take a while to get used to “Guardians” cause I can’t help but thing GOTG and also Walking Dead’s Guardians. Did they even consider The Cleveland 5-Way?

On another note, former local guy makes good: https://lostcoastoutpost.com/2021/jul/13/video-former-humboldt-crab-known-taking-batting-pr/
