Woodstock 99: Peace, Love, and Rage - I was vaguely aware of Woodstock 99 mostly just from seeing the lineup, I had no idea what it was actually like. This movie is horrifying and I can't imagine very many places I would like to be less than this nightmare of a festival. 500k overwhelmingly male Limp Bizkit and Metallica fans squeezed into an air force base that's mostly cement in 110 degree weather with basically no working facilities or available shade or water. I bet that Korn set was great though for anyone who wasn't passed out.
i was 20, and remember getting stoned with a couple of friends while this madness was on in the background. we kinda just laughed at all the dipshits and terrible music, then went to watch American Pie all baked (pardon the pun) in the theater.
Space Jam 2’s strategy for a good movie is “let’s throw a gazillion references and cameos in from other WB/HBO properties so people will point at the screen excitedly instead of realise what garbage it is”
seriously it just seemed like 90 minutes of cutscenes. Hey there’s Rick and morty! In a kids movie! Awesome! Oh that’s bill belichexk! Now he’s the other popular coach!
my 11 year nephew was over last week and him and my daughter wanted to watch it. oh boy, this was not good at all. basically agree with everything you and @hisdudeness915 said about it. also LBJ is such a terrible actor. like really bad. you'd think he'd have some serious acting chops considering how much he acts on the court flopping and complaining.

The documentary is legitimately horrifying the way they set this thing up and the things that happened to people (do not watch this if you're sensitive to descriptions of sexual assault). They talk about how within hours of the festival opening all of the toilets had been knocked over and people were rolling around in what they thought was mud. Even the first night people were finding ways to sleep on piles of pizza boxes because it was the only thing you could tell for sure had been urinated on or not. This is all before Fred Durst gets up and encourages 500k dehydrated, angry people who were already out of control to let out all of the negative energy they have pent up. I don't know why the organizers agreed to do interviews for this or how they thought it would come off but it's insane.
The only part of this documentary I really didn't like was the Bill Simmons bullshit where you could tell he came in and wanted a segment where someone explains how all these major events that happened in the 90's were actually all about how people felt about music and how Cobain's suicide lead to Columbine or whatever the fuck. I'm here to watch a 19 year old who's badly sunburned and hasn't had a drink of water in 60 hours do a backflip off a toilet into a pile of shit, not whatever Ringer nonsense they shoved in there.
Disturbia. Seen it 4 or 5 times now but excellent take on the man across the street plot. Say what you will about the man(he’s a douche) but Shia can definitely act.
Honestly though I liked the murderer dude. He’s solid in everything I’ve seen him in. (The rock)

There were multiple rapes. I was 14 when it happened and remember dropping my jaw then.
watched The Jungle Cruise this afternoon with my daughter and we were both bored for most of it. it was kind of a convoluted dragging mess. best part about it was Jesse Plemonds playing a pretty funny German baddie.

I enjoyed the movie for what it was, I think it also helped the lady I sat next to was giggling at all the stupid jokes which I couldn't help but laugh at her. Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt were good and as you mentioned Jesse Plemons was a very good addition in the role he was playing. Had a couple instrumental versions of Metallica songs that I enjoyed as well. The overall story was pretty meh but the movie worked overall purely on the backs of Johnson, Blunt, and Plemons.

I watched this on friday but I could not tell you a single thing about the movie now other than Plemons, the rapids, and a submarine.

How many times can the Rock make the same movie?

I have no interest in the movie because I feel like I’ve already seen it.
Welp, I have a new #1 movie of the year, overtaking Saint Maud for the time being. Just one of the most immersive and mesmerizing things I’ve seen in a really long time. I’ve already got tickets to see this again on Friday, and I have a feeling I might see it even more than that.
Every single technical aspect of this movie is remarkable considering it only cost like $15M. Sound design, score, cinematography, editing- all incredible.
As for the plot itself- it has almost nothing to do with the poem, but I didn’t find it in any way inaccessible like I’ve read a couple critics ding it for. It’s very dream-like and languid and that won’t be for everybody but god damn it is exactly my pace. Plus we just don’t get enough fantasy like this anymore. Big Pan’s Labyrinth type vibes.
Shouts to Margot Robbie, who has crawled through a consistently flowing river of shit and come out clean on the other side every single time. She’s created the most hilarious and enduring and interesting character that has been on the screen for DC since Ledger’s Joker.
She’s done it through one cosmically awful music video, a decently mediocre movie that nobody asked for but definitely rocked the shit in some parts, and then this, FUCKING FINALLY, gem of a DC movie. She really cranks that accent all the way up to Adriana La Cerva in this one too, which is just a cherry on the top.
Tons of meta shit talking of the original movie here too if you’re into that kinda thing.
Fire everybody at WB and give James Gunn the keys.
Someone recommended the new Suicide Squad movie so I had to do a little catch-up watching:
Suicide Squad (original) - Definitely not aimed at me with its particular aesthetic (The Joker set my teeth on edge every time he's on screen) but I could see what they were going for. Otherwise impressed with Cara Delevingne's and Margot Robbie's performances and the melted metal effect of the witch's brother's powers. Not a great movie but enjoyable enough.
Birds of Prey blah blah - There's just something fun about female-led action movies; HK used to make them but these days they're quite rare. Again, not really for me but I enjoyed Robbie's performance, the other ladies kicking butt as well, and the movie well enough.
Suicide Squad (2021) - Visually
stunning but I thought
Harley was poorly used here. She's a lot more talkative and verbally
funny in the first two. Those previous films, while understandably not
everyone's cup of tea (including mine) also had an energy/forward
momentum this film seemed to lack, perhaps because often everything had
to pause for a moment so we could appreciate the special effects. Movies should move; in a few years the SFX will look dated so filmmakers should not serve them up as the main course. I
enjoyed watching it but not as much as the other two films.
Watched it with a 21 year old. She had never seen it before. Like most of us, I've seen it God knows how many times. It was awesome watching it with someone who literally had no idea what it was. She loved it. Her favorite character was Cameron. Lol.
Saturday the 14th (1981) - Nostalgia rewatch; turns out 80's horror comedies are not so good without sex and violence. Half of the best bits are in the trailer.

Holy shit I think you’re officially the first person on the internet to say this. That’s something. That first Suicide Squad is so incoherent, so unwatchable, and one of the single worst non-movie movies ever filmed that my brain is not able to even compute your final sentence here.

"Not a great movie but enjoyable enough" is not exactly a ringing endorsement. I do have decades of experience keeping up with fast moving movies from watching HK films but even so, the first Suicide Squad wasn't hard to follow, IMO. Maybe try it with subtitles on?
Oh I could hear it just fine, it’s just so astonishingly wretched that the only explanation I can think of is that WB made the worst movie of all time on purpose.
The whole thing dies right out of the gate when Waller explains that she needs to put together a team that could take down a Superman level threat in the event that the next time he wants to rip off the roof of the White House and kill the President. So the team that she assembles is a hip hop-loving crocodile, a shooty man who shoots real good, a grossly-sexualized lunatic with a baseball bat, a shooty soldier man who shoots real good, a guy who throws boomerangs, someone with a sword, and an angry fire guy. In what universe is THIS the team that deals with Superman?

Oh my sweet summer child, it's only the worst movie you have seen (in your opinion) so far. Trust me when I say there are truly painful experiences out there masquerading as movies.
I'm sure DC fans could put together a better group to take on Superman but that sword captures souls == magic == something to which Superman isn't invulnerable. Angry fire guy seemed magic-ish too, and if not, seemed like he could go a round or two with Superman just on size/strength alone.
ETA: The original team also included The Enchantress who is clearly a powerful magic user.

I watched this too, was a senior in high school in 1999 so it was in my wheelhouse. Wasn't into Korn or Limp Bizkit but was a big Rage fan, and and actually also Moby so was interesting to see his perspective. I knew a couple guys who went and yea, it was that bad. Also holy shit, that one concert organizer, oof, blaming pretty much everyone except himself.

That dude being that smug after overseeing these concerts where people died really got to me. His main deflection was like well the other ones were shit shows too we just only remember Hendrix, and it's like bro that is not the defense you think it is
Best horror movie I’ve seen since Hereditary, just a fascinating mind-bender from beginning to end, with the performance of the year for my money from Rececca Hall. The set design is really wild, and you can see all manner of creepy shit in the negative spaces of this house, and it becomes even more explicit as the movie goes along.
I think they could have done a little bit more to explain a few things, not so much in a hand-holdy give you all the answers sort of way, but in a way that would have really added to the “oh shit” factor, but it’s not a huge complaint because I pretty much had goosebumps the the entire drive home. Definitely planning to see this one again.
@RyanReeseman good to hear. This movie had my interest and I was planning on checking it out in theaters. Is it weird that just from the trailers alone I could tell Rebecca Hall was going to kill it?
I just watched The Green Knight and loved it...it was the art-house Dungeons and Dragons movie that I didn't know I wanted ha! I haven't listened to the guy's podcast about it yet, but will a little later on today when I'm free.

Awesome. I have been waiting for another Hereditary-level horror movie. I haven't really found it so I will be excited to give this a look.
