I'll admit to posting more on discord these days ...even tho I started this thread. Just fyi there's a sports channel on there now.
I don't think anyone should feel bad for moving over to discord away from these forums lol, that's pretty much been mandated. I just am not going to install discord on my work computer so I'm here till the wheels fall off.
I second this. I'm slowly using Discord more and trying to check it more periodically but I'll still ride the forums to their eventual death.

Haha I know. Just in that awkward transition phase I guess, so I still try to drop in here as I know there are folks who are still forums only. I haven't even tried discord on my computer, I've been finding the mobile app to be pretty nice.
The Simone Biles situation shows that people will politicize literally anything. She withdraws citing mental health issues and the clear majority response was to wish her well...and then there's this cabal of right-wing pundits who completely demonized her - Charlie Kirk called her "a psychopath" for crying out loud!
Except swimming. THAT'S RIGHT MY SWIMMING HOT TAKE IS BACK. SWIMMING MEDALS ARE BULLSHIT. There should be ONE swimming event for each distance. Why does it matter if you're swimming on your front or your back or flailing your arms like a fucking weirdo? It should be whoever can swim 100m the fastest, use whatever stroke you want. They don't have the 100, walk, run, skip, run backwards, and cartwheel in track.
Now that we're in the Track and Field week, I'm realizing that I have similar feelings about hurdles and, at the moment since it's on my TV screen, steeplechase. Just, like, "Hey, what if we had a race, but ALSO made them jump occasionally? How about that?"

As a former hurdler, instead of reading this as the obvious and unfair attack on hurdles it is, I'm going to choose to read it as a suggestion that there should be inverse hurdles in swimming where you have to swim to the bottom of the pool to go under a hurdle every 10 meters, and I wholeheartedly agree with that suggestion.
I will say I had that exact thought with the heptathlon. We already have the decathlon! What the fuck is the point of the exact same event, just less hard? Dumb.
Edit - And the 200 can go too. We call the winner of the 100m the fastest man in the world, and almost without fail if you're great at the 100 you're great at the 200. We don't need both.
Canada's Women's Soccer team won Gold today (sorry America!) and our goalkeeper was outstanding. After the win, someone updated her wiki page and changed her profession to Minister of Defense. Then she got a shout-out from the actual Minister of Defense!
I get that France made for the better game but I really wanted to see Luka vs USA. There’s still a few more chances for that to happen but I feel like this specific US team would’ve been fun to watch against Slovenia. Hopefully they get the bronze.
I'm just so happy for April Ross winning her well deserved first Gold Medal in Beach Volleyball. And she did it without Kerry Walsh Jennings, who actually lost it for them in Brazil. If She won with Kerry, Kerry would have have gotten all the attention and credit. April Ross is Boss and with her new Teammate Alix Klineman there may be another Gold in the future.

Also, finally track and field is starting! Best part of the games.

Edit - and as much as I hate twitter, read through the replies, there's some gold (HA) in there.
I did not know any of them, we were separated by about 30 years. West Virginia University.
I used to referee, and would work scrimmages for the women's team, but, as a full-time employee of the University, I could not do actual games.
When these three were here, we advanced to the NCAA championship game (lost to USC).
There were two, not three. I thought an old keeper of ours was a backup - I guess she didn't make the team.
