Making It! My wife and I finally remembered that Season 3 had happened and we tore through it in like 2 days, then decided to watch Seasons 1 and 2. Got through the whole show in less than a week. That show just makes me so crazy happy for so many different reasons. Easily my favorite reality show of all time.
@Travis Love that show. The relentless positivity is not usually my thing but I think Offerman and Poehler are good enough to make it work, especially for a twee arts and crafts show like that. It'll never be my favorite reality show in a world where Nailed It exists but it's up there for me and my partner.
I've been watching a show on Netflix (Canada) called "Good Girls" and I really like it. Apparently it was a network show on NBC, but I've never heard of it before. I'm surprised that no one I know has ever mentioned it because it's really similar to Breaking Bad and not far off in terms of quality. I highly recommend it with a little caveat...there are 4 seasons, but it got cancelled before all of the plot points could be properly wrapped up.
Midnight Mass - We got through this in a weekend, it was really good. It's a pretty slow burn, especially in the beginning, so don't expect The Conjuring or anything in terms of horror elements. It's very focused on the characters and how they're dealing with the struggles of their lives and this struggling small fishing town. If you like Hill House or Bly Manor or any of the other stuff Flanagan has done it's a no brainer.
I'm working my way through it too. I am loving it. But you weren't kidding about the slow burn nature of it. I am a guy who loves slow burn horror, but this is really taking its time. It has some very Stephen King'y atmosphere and characters. So spending time in this world isn't boring, but it does take its time in getting where its going. I finished the 4th episode earlier, and pieces are starting to finally move quite a bit.

We’re only 2 episodes in but we’re loving it too. Gonna push hard on it this weekend. I’m picking up The Third Day kind of slow burn and I love it.
Squid Game on Netflix - desperation, human nature, violence, game play, etc.
Surprised it is not a thread of its own here.
Previously it probably would have been. I know there is a thread on Discord. But I agree. I am loving this one as well. I haven't had much reason to actually like Netflix content for a while. But between this and Midnight Mass, I am glad to pay for it.

We just started this last night, only two episodes in and I knew generally what it was about from the trailer but holy shit lol. It's a little bit silly and convenient with the extreme situations the characters are in but it's basically a horror show so whatever.
I'm glad Squid Game and Midnight Mass will give me something to binge for Halloween season. Along with 30 Coins.
At the moment, I'm working may way through the original Star Trek. Filling gaps on episodes I've never seen. I will always appreciate the Okudas' Remastered project back in 2006. The show looks pretty darn good in HD.
Squid Game (Netflix) - I don't want to spoil it. I watched it but found it wasn't for me, perhaps because I've seen it's general inspirations in terms of major set pieces and overall message. Looks good visually. Also has standard Korean over the top, drawn out melodrama.
Vigil This seems to be a one and done 6 episode crime drama - think Line of Duty but on a submarine. There are twists and turns galore as Detective Suranne Jones is put on an active sub to investigate a sailor’s mysterious death, while Detective Rose Leslie investigates the case on land. Everyone gets a look in - the Americans, the Russians, MI5, a shady peace protestor group, an even shadier anti-nuclear politician. There’s a lot going on and it’s a bit bonkers, but super entertaining. Lots of actors anyone who watches a lot of British TV will recognise - Shaun Evans, Martin Compston, Paterson Joseph, Stephen Dillane, Billy Elliot’s dad, etc. etc.
Add me to the SquidGame crew. Have discussed it a bit on the discord thread we have going. I loved it overall, Parasite meets The Long Walk / Hunger Games, etc. Has some really great performances and one of my favorite tv episodes of the year (Ep 6 "Gganbu").
As soon as I have some free time I need to sit down and watch Squid Game. Seems like it has a similar premise to Alice in Borderland which I really enjoyed.
A few episodes in on Sex Education. It’s well acted and has funny bits but I can’t help but feel uncomfortable that these kids are high school age ( though they don’t look it) I’m not naive but definitely get cringy about underage blow jobs. I wish they were at least in college.
Anyone else experience this? Leaning towards no longer watching.

For what it's worth. my wife and I watched that show and really enjoyed it. The plot can get a bit redundant and I think it was actually kind of the right call to cancel it unless they had an awesome gear shift in the tank, but I don't think it wore out its welcome. Whole thing was really fun. It was cool to see Retta doing something very different. She was pretty great on it. Really good show.
Lately our tv lives have been waiting for new Ted Lassos, Foundations, What We Do in the Shadows and Only Murders in the Buildings. but in that wait we decided to try Morning Show and I like it much more than I guessed. I did not know Jenifer Aniston had that gear. Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell are fantastic as always, and I love that basically everyone else is "oh yeah, that actor/ess from that thing." Also was pretty blown away by the pilot and then the credits roll and Mimi Lederer pops up and oh shit, of course it was. We're a few in and it's really good. Can't wait to see how it all plays out.

From what I've read, they had 1 more season plotted and it was supposed to tie up all the loose ends and bring it to a proper ending. They were forced to re-write the last few episodes of season 4 to make it work as a series finale, but doing that didn't allow them to plot it out properly so instead of building tension that led to a peak moment they were like "we've got 3 episodes to bring this all together the best we can".
I might be late to the party but The Haunting Of Hill House is a must!. I’m on episode six. I’ve been watching it slowly sitting on the edge of my seat. I also have been watching Midnight Mass it is OK but I think this one is the best of the three. Doctor Sleep is on my watch list.

You're watching Hill House and Midnight Mass at the same time? Madman
Ghosts (US) - Rose McIver (iZombie) has a new show, a remake of the UK Ghosts. Right off the bat it's 1,000% weird seeing her paired with a South Asian man who is not Rahul Kohli. Haven't seen the original show but the first two episodes of this show are very not for me. Acting is very broad, jokes rarely seem funny, etc. Maybe this show will be canceled and Rose can do something better, perhaps as some humorous superhero for Marvel.
ETA: The UK Ghosts is on HBO Max and is much, much better.
Midnight Mass There was a reasonably good movie in there, buried in about four and a half hours of tedious monologues. No kidding, 80% of this was lIke watching paint dry. The two romantic leads had zero chemistry and both were a charisma vacuum - talk about your supermarket sliced white bread.
Anyway, Hamish Linklater was great, though guilty of a lot of that monologuing, and basically the only reason I stuck it out to the end, especially since the big twist is revealed quite early on and then the last two thirds of the episodes are just about how they deal with it.
Three episodes into Midnight Mass. I do wonder if it would be more effective if I hadn't been somewhat spoiled on what it's about. I will be interested to see if there are any zigs in the last half where other similar stories tend to zag. Still, not bad so far, with some of the characters certainly more interesting than others.
Wu Tang: An American Saga - I saw his come up on Hulu a while back but didn't hear much about it, it's on season 2 now. I love it, if you have any interest in Wu Tang or want a gang/drug war drama with an incredible soundtrack you should definitely check it out. It goes through the early lives of the various members of Wu Tang growing up on Staten Island and the war between the two projects they belonged to as they try to transition to making music. Not sure how much of it is made up but the characters are phenomenal. I wasn't expecting much going in but it's easily one of the best shows I've watched in a long time at least through 5 episodes.
I caught up to where they're at in season 2 of Wu Tang and this is my favorite show in a while. Season 2 is a lot more musical once they all come together and has some metaphorical scenes like with RZA walking around playing chess with 3 versions of himself and stuff like that. The scenes of them coming up with and recording Protect Ya Neck and C.R.E.A.M. made me want to jump through the ceiling. I just can't recommend it enough if you like Wu Tang and who doesn't.
After finishing Midnight Mass (which I enjoyed well enough), I decided to check out The Third Day and listen to the OTCs about it. The first three episodes worked well enough as a Wicker Man/Midsommar-esque strange isolated folk horror story. And the show is shot pretty beautifully. I have a pretty cheap 4K TV and it's like the show was designed for it. It looked gorgeous.
After watching some of the highlights of that crazy 12 hour livestream they did, I got half an hour into the Winter episodes and I couldn't continue. Naomie Harris' character just wasn't working for me, so I don't know if I'm going to finish it. I'm not sure Jim finished it, for that matter.
So, once I'm done sampling scary movies for Halloween, I'll probably get into Squid Game.

I loved season 1 but haven't had a chance to see any of season 2 yet - I can't wait!
When I started Reservation Dogs last night, I did not expect to get through 6 of its 8 first season episodes. But I'm loving it. It's one of those shows where you wonder in retrospect why the suits in charge were so afraid of wider representation for so long. As with all of the best of its kind of media that introduce large audiences to a community that isn't often portrayed on screen, the show presents relatable and universal issues of coming of age in an economically depressed small town with seemingly few future prospects while also showcasing elements unique to its particular culture. Now I know what the Deer Woman, Tall Man, and a Lighthorse man are, that a number of tribes view owls as omens of death, and even that Redbone was made up of Native and Mexican American band members. Plus, that spirit guide that Bear encounters on occasion steals every scene he's been in thus far. Hilarious and poignant; I hope this show goes on for years.
Also, I'm a few episode into the latest season of What We do in the Shadows. Some website I saw published an article the other day that this season is heavy on character development and three episodes in, I can already see the beginnings of arcs for Nandor, Colin, and Guillermo, an interesting change from previous seasons that didn't really alter it characters much, aside from Guillermo's reluctant but seemingly inevitable embrace of his family heritage. I'll be interested to see where it goes, particularly how the rapport between Guillermo and Nandor develops as the season progresses.
