One more win and we party like it’s 1999.
5 more and we party like its 1995.

The dream. We need to exorcise some of these Atlanta sports demons.

despite the outcome, the 1991 World Series is my favorite WS of my lifetime. to this day i can still name that Braves starting lineup.

I was born in ‘86 so that was just slightly before my sports fandom started in earnest, but I can do the same with all the teams from about ‘95-2002 or so.

It will be eternally frustrating that the most dominant baseball team of the 90s only have 1 championship to show for it. At the very least the Braves should have 3 championships. Nobody was beating that ‘99 Yankees team, but we should have had them in ‘98.

Only 18 games less though, 144 instead of 162. Indians went 100-44, Albert Belle produced the only ever 50-50 season in MLB history too (50Hr & 50 doubles).  I watched closely for Pujols to pull that off, but he topped out at 49 HR.

I was 11 that year, and just barely getting into the Braves.

1993 was the year I started watching them on TBS regularly (it was much better than watching the Blow Jays on TSN & CBC).

I can tell you the Braves 1993 lineup both pre and post the McGriff trade. I can tell you Gant and Justice had 21 and 20 HR at the time of the trade (July 7th, I think) and McGriff had 18. Crime Dog hit 2 his first game as a Brave, and another his next game. Justice sneaked one in there somewhere and they all had 21.

I can tell you most of the lineups final stats, starting rotation, their records and ERA. I used to know their bench and bullpen just as well. I remember they switched closers mid-season. Greg McMichael had 27 saves, but lefty Mike Stanton finished the year with 19.

I know the 1993 Jays nearly as well.

I used to know all 28 teams starting lineups and stats and rotations and a lot of bullpen.

I played ALOT of Ken Griffey Press Major League Baseball, which was based on the 1993 season.

Yes I used to edit them all too.

I mostly used the Braves, Expos and Blow Jays. But also used the CiSox, Cubs,  Yankees and Dodgers a lot too. They all had hidden gems.

Dodgers had Strawberry hidden on the bench with a 9 Pow.

Cubs had insane defense, backed by Rick Wilkins 31 Homer season (his next career high was like 7) and 9 Def. Sosa had a 30-30 season and somehow a 9 Def. Shawn Dunston and Mark Grace had 10 Def. Ryne Sandberg had a 9 Def, and Willie Wilson was hiding on the bench with 9 Speed and 9 Def.

Yankees had Kevin Maas on the bench with 10 Pow.

White Sox had Bo Jackson with an 8 Pow, but hit Homer's like he was a 15 Pow. Ozzie Guillen hit way more than he should have, too.

I’m happy for Braves fans. Gonna be backing Atlanta 100% for obvious reasons.

My brother-in-law and I today are back to what worked during Boston. Same Bierhaus, same beers, same seats. We identified the problem last night. Go ‘Stros.

It's been a little while since I've been in here, but I just came back to ask - wtf with Bob Melvin going to the Padres??? This is news that I did *not* see coming.
  • Not sure if there are any other Red Sox fans here, but Jerry Remy, their long time color commentator (he also played 2nd base for them back in the day), passed. He was the voice of the Sox for me pretty much all my life, will be missed. He got to throw out the first pitch at a playoff game earlier this month, was happy to see that.

    Here's his funniest call, lol.

I learned of him from a Red Sox fan on a sports football I frequent. He ended to me Ike the David Eckstein of his day, much like David Fletcher is the Eckstein of today.

    Love those spunky types.

I'm a Red Sox fan that's always lived out of market and only started watching the NESN feeds a few years ago through MLB.tv. I'm going to miss him a lot and am sad to think I could have had more time with him. I don't think he'll ever be replaced.

Waited a long fucking time for this. I was 10 the last time this team won a championship. What a game, what an improbable season. Under .500 at the All-Star Break, losing one of the biggest stars in the game to a freak injury, and making 4 key moves at the trade deadline, one of which just won the WS MVP.

    Just incredible.

Congrats, Braves. Clearly the best team. Soak it up and enjoy it cause you earned it!
  • As a Royals fan, I'm happy that Soler played such a key part. Particularly that last blast.

Just read this from a Red Sox fan. Any truth to it A's fans?

Been reading a lot of sources saying that it's Fire Sale time in Oakland. Matt Chapman, Mark Canha, Matt Olson, Sean Manaea, et al,all sitting in the front window with a sign that says "EVERYTHING MUST GO!!".

Dunno if it's been confirmed by the team but that's how its being talked about locally. They gave Melvin the opportunity to go manage for a contender if he didn't want to be here for the teardown and Giants media is doing the same thing combing the roster for players who could be trade targets.
