Well the city works quick! As of Tuesday morning the lights are shut off! I called Friday right after being bopped. They said check back for an update with my report # Wednesday. Yesterday morning they were still flashing but today they’re off.  Officer dipshit will have to move along and abuse some other part of the community with his grift.

@Chinaski luckily I wasn’t going 20 over so the fine is more for school zone but not in that next tier. Also can take defensive driving since I haven’t had a ding in long while.

We just had a bigggg earthquake.  No damage here & everyone is safe.  My sister's house is 30 min. closer to the epicenter though & she has stuff all over her floors, broken stuff, etc. :(
At least we are all physically safe though!

  • DeeDee Adelaide
Omg @Michelle! This has not been a great end of year for you :-(

Good to hear that you had no damage, but is your sister the Mum of the sick nieces? Damn, she’s having a rough time too. I hope the new year is a lot better one for you and your family. It’s your turn for some good stuff!
  • cdrivecdrive Houston, TX
@Michelle wow that’s scary. I hope your sister can get pick stuff off the floor and nothing too valuable or sentimental broke!

    @Dee @cdrive ty both :heart:
Dee, yeah it's the same sis (I only have one sib).  They all pitched in and it took about 2 hrs to clean everything up.  But like I told my nieces, at least everyone is physically safe - the things are just things.  On the Covid side of it all, good news, everyone there has tested negative now.  I'm totally sick with the flu still (still Covid neg).  We've delayed our Christmas until New Year's Day.

You guys, I've been so whiny with everything lately.  This isn't normal me - and I'm so sorry to bring the Debbie Downer energy.  It really has been a tough month.  BUT big picture though - we are together and safe and will all be healthy again.  We have roofs over our heads, warm blankets, food in the fridge, and a lot of love between us.  We will all be okay.

  • I had a (not entirely new but fairly unique) idea for a book. I got the green light from a publisher and started working on the book. The book is an anthology; I emailed the call for submissions to [NAME REDACTED]. [NAME REDACTED] declined to participate because he (or she?) was too busy. 7 months later [NAME REDACTED] puts out a call for submissions for his (or her?) book on the same (fairly unique) idea.

Discord still sucks. I guess it’s down right now? It’ll most likely never be as cool as this place once was. No one can just start a thread like “Do raisinets look like rabbit doo doo?” on a whim like we used to here and just shoot the shit. I miss Chinaski and other users dropping upcoming movie/tv trailers and actually talking about it, instead of some annoying soulless spambot. And sandwich threads and active music threads and threads about all random things in a vibrant Bald Move grand central station of activity. All those users saying they’d never post here cause they like Discord and now they can participate now that it’s on Discord? LIES! And so many OG’s here left.  :(

Also, fuck the PS5! How do they even sleep at night releasing new games like this Elden Ring bullshit. Who gives a shit? If we’re not one of the 36 people in the US that has a PS5, we’re supposed buy it on PS4 and get excited about it? Average life of a PlayStation edition is 6.5 years with the latter end of its life being long in the tooth. We’re more than a third into that lifespan now. I don’t desktop PC game. Haven’t for 20 years. I also don’t own a beeper or a Sony discman. No PS5 has been a real gut punch.  Darkest moment in gaming history since the Atari ET game.

Ok I think I got it all out.

  • Sweep house - get everything in the dust pan - open door to remove the dust/trash - random gust of wind blows everything out of the dust pan.  Repeat.
  • DeeDee Adelaide
@GredalBee That’s why the lord invented dustbusters.

@cdrive HARD AGREE. I joined and I figured it out (sort of) and it’s just a bunch of random comments with no cohesion. I can only hope this Patreon forum is the business, because Discord sure isn’t for me.

I first tried Discord a few years ago, have had it ever since,, and I still don't like it for those very reasons.  It feels like Yahoo chat rooms from 20 years ago.

Understaffed grocery stores that intentionally make the checkout/shopping process longer and more inconvenient. I went into Kroger this morning to pick up a few things, and saw that avocados were finally at a reasonable price. With a catch. You have to scan a QR code by the sale price. I decide to play ball, and sure enough, the QR code just pops up a random link that doesn't produce anything that could possibly be used to convey the price change. I get to self checkout, and ask the attendant what I needed to do.She says "Oh, you scan it, and then link it to your Kroger account through the app." Nowhere on the sale sign did it say this, and there is literally no need for the app at all unless you are doing a pickup order or delivery. I just looked at her and the line behind me, and said "Does this happen a lot? People can't in good conscience hold the checkout line up while they download an app, and log in to their account." She says "Sorry. I don't know what to tell you." So I just handed her the avocados, bought the rest of my items, and left.

So in conclusion: I would like to apologize to my turkey, lettuce, tomato, and swiss on sourdough sandwich for not having any avocado slices today. Technology and corporate shortsightedness caused you to be an expendable ingredient. Fuck, I'm going to be so mad when I eat this sandwich later. Lol.

Speaking of work - I started this new job in early Feb. after leaving what Aron lovingly calls something like 'the evil corporate overlords' (he's not wrong) - and then the industry that my company supports has decidedly taken a hit due to several factors (new laws, taxes on farms & growers, etc.). So now my company, like almost all others in the industry in all aspects, is struggling - and that's leaving me with my own anxiety, wondering if I will soon be out of a job as one of their newest hires.  I updated my resume & am occasionally peeking in on the internet job boards, seeing what else is out there. I'm not oldddddd, but too old to be worrying about something like this. I just want my benefits & to continue my 401k and live comfortably and travel and not be scared that I may be jobless at some point.

(And I know there are millions that also face this struggle... it's not easy.)
