The fate of Watching Dead?

I enjoy listening to the guys rip the show a new one more than I enjoy the show.  There was talk on the pod about changes to the format, and those changes were supposed to be discussed in January.  I hope Watching Dead continues as it has been.  Any news for us?

  • The said during the Groundhog Day marathon they're not ready to divulge that just yet. But yeah, changes are coming.

I'm like you when it comes to the Walking Dead and other shows like the X-Files - the worse a show gets, the better the BM coverage gets. I hope they continue at least with the live watches.
  • Might be good if they just went back to the instant cast format and ditch the full fledged podcast entirely. If they're going to do a livewatch they might as well just keep the equipment running and record a quick take. But then again half of what I like about the TWD podcast is the feedback so..

  • Are they going to farm out The Watching Dead to Al and Joe?

That's an awful thing to say. What did Al and Joe ever do to you? They don't deserve that kind of treatment!

But - what about if it all turns around with season 9?  Now that they'll have a new showrunner taking things over, even with Gimple in a higher office he won't have his hands directly on the day-to-day 'in the moment' operations.  I think they should stick it out and see what happens.  And then, if season 9 is a sh*tshow, maybe call it a day on the podcast but at least see if things improve.

  • The problem with TWD is AMC not the showrunner. As long as AMC is in charge it won’t get better.

Yeah, I've had a feeling for a couple months that Al and Joe may be taking this over.
  • Let's also not forget about the people that feel like BM coverage is holding them hostage and forcing them to watch a show they hate.  I only recently broke out of that and stopped watching, but the FOMO is still very real.

I mean that’s not BM’s fault though. You don’t even have to watch the show to listen to the podcast.

  • True, and I do still listen to the podcast, but there's still the feeling that I'm not getting the full experience.  But I also really don't want to start watching the show again.
  • Don’t.

  • I'm probably not fully entitled to an opinion since I have never been a fan of TWD. But, having heard all the reports from fans about how a good/decent show, has truly turned Into a shitshow, I can't help but think that perhaps the guys' time and smart analysis of shows and movies, could be better spent....  (for example on Mindhunter?  :)  ) And perhaps also some nice commisioned movie podcasts.

Just my 2 cents and leaning no offense towards TWD fans..

  • If they do decide they don't want to cover the show anymore, I think the most interesting/dramatic way would be to continue this season and then rage quit in the middle of the podcast after a particularly bad episode.

    I wouldn’t worry; I don’t think you’ll find many of those here.........

Selfishly i hope they continue to cover it in some form. Its how i found Bald Move through The Watching Dead and it will be a strange day when the boys aren’t covering it anymore.

Ok, to clarify, so people aren’t thinking I’m super ridiculous - I know the show probably *won’t* get better, but I am a hopeless optimist despite my better judgement.  Plus, it was Watching Dead that led me to Bald Move, so there’s a little nostalgia mixed in with it as well.  I secretly hope the show will improve.  But deep down, I know it probably won’t.

@Michelle me too! I've sworn off at least watching the show but still plan on listening. I'm worried it's not going to get any better and it's still going to suck me back in somehow! Walking Dead:

  • I think any change within the production at this point is a step in the right direction. Maybe not even the "right direction" just a different direction, and unless the guys would be in conflict with a live tv show that is clearly superior..then I think it would be worth sticking around just to see if it gets any better. Not necessarily full coverage, just don't want to see them throw the baby out with the bath water.

Just remember-- the Romans were delighted when Tiberius died, because ANY emperor would be better than Tiberius!

    Enter-- Caligula.

  • I get excited to watch TWD knowing the podcast that will follow. I get giddy when I see something especially shitty happening in the show, in anticipation of the beating Jim & A Ron will doll out. I'll be sad if it's only live watches... but I get it.

Well, at least we would get better CGI animals, Caligula liked horses.
