  • Groundhog Day's "Groundhog Day" Marathon on 2/2/18 @ 12:01AM EST!

Well, it's the next day.  I've only just begun my journey back to feeling human but I had to get online to give it up for our community and everyone who made yesterday the craziest / most amazing 24 hours we've ever had at Bald Move.

You all did some amazing work keeping A.Ron and I entertained in chat and showing your support with donations for the homeless.  Everyone contributed and we all did something awesome together.  I couldn't be more grateful for everything.

On a personal note, one of the most moving moments of this whole experience actually happened this morning after the marathon ended and I got a full night's sleep.  I was laying in bed, browsing some random gaming channels on Twitch where I saw chat after chat filled with truly disgusting people shouting slurs and hatred at the streamers and their fellow chatters.  Then I thought back to the civility and good humor of our community during the charity event.  In 24 hours, I didn't see even a single person say something meant to offend or hurt someone else.  You are honestly the best community of people I've ever seen on the internet and I'm proud to call you Bald Move fans.

  • Bald Move 10th Anniversary

Coming in under the wire here...

I want to let everyone who has supported us over the years know just how grateful I am. Even during the stressful times (and there have been many), Bald Move has been the most personally rewarding thing in my life. This experience wouldn't have been possible without all of you. Thank you for 10 amazing years!

  • Better Call Saul 5/01 - Magic Man SPOILERS

Here's the deal with A.Ron not being on the show anymore...

People complain when we don't cover the shows they like. People also complain when we're not as hyped as they are about a show we are covering. And I complain when I'm recording 8 podcasts in a week and they're all mediocre to bad as a result.

The change in hosts on BCS and The New Pope were designed to address all of those problems. Having more hosts means covering more shows. Having more hosts also means producing the same number of podcasts as a network, while having to produce fewer shows individually. Producing fewer shows individually means less stress and more fun covering the shows we're going to cover.

Bottom line is, Bald Move has to work for us as human beings for it to continue existing. For the past 3 years, it has absolutely not worked. We're making the changes required to fix that. Yes, it will upset some people - no one likes change - but the alternative is we stop making the podcasts you love and go get far less stressful day jobs. I hope people can understand that.

  • Eating Their Own. And their $$$

You all got me rollin'. If this is how all the political threads would go then I'm in favor of bringing them back. Great job, everyone!

  • Eating Their Own. And their $$$

Does nobody see the irony here?  Maybe @Redrum0376 is never coming back to read this thread.  Maybe they just hurled a bomb in here out of anger with no intention to discuss their grievance.  Maybe the post was made in bad faith.  They aren't the first one to do this, and they won't be the last.  Am I the only one who can take their post in good faith and engage with that criticism?  I get that you're all uncomfortable with the conversation, but the behavior in this thread is a perfect illustration of exactly what I said above.  It's a dog pile.
You are definitely not required to debate @Redrum0376's position here just because you disagree with it, but that doesn't mean you should all dismiss it with ass-eating syrup memes.

I'll Stan for BM all day long.  I love the content, and I love the added value I get with that.  Today, I am very disappointed in the community.  (@Hatorian excluded, you responded in good faith.)

This thread starts off with a gripe.  One that on it's face seems inflammatory and divisive.  The first 2 responses are FORUM MODERATORS immediately starting in with jokes.  Maybe your intent was to diffuse the situation, but this thread has completely devolved in to bullying.  Engage with the topic or let the thread die, I don't care.  Just don't hijack it and turn somebodies hurt into a joke.

I've been thinking about this and have decided that I mostly agree. My earlier comment that encouraged it was a mistake. The sometimes-exclusive nature of our community is something A.Ron and I have talked about and don't really want to encourage. I appreciate a good inside joke as much as the next person, maybe more, and don't think they're harmful, but what is harmful is treating new contributors like outsiders. The default position should be to welcome different perspectives of all types, even when they're critical, as long as it's good-faith criticism. And sometimes it can be hard to tell.

So apologies to OP. I don't think politics has a huge place in the Bald Move ecosystem but I see why it might not be the best thing for the community for me to encourage behavior that could even remotely border on bullying. A bully is the last thing I want to be.

  • James Gunn fired from Guardians 3

As someone who has over a decade of recorded podcasts amounting to thousands of hours of jokes, personal revelations and potentially controversial takes on all kinds of issues, I like to think that people should be given the opportunity to change and be forgiven for it when they apologize.  Many of the things I said when I first started podcasting in 2006 are cringe-worthy to me now and I'd rather not have said them.  My hope would be that people think it's silly to hold 36 year-old Jim accountable for the poor judgement of 20 year-old Jim.

Maybe the ephemeral nature of services like Twitch or Snapchat is the antidote for this kind of thing.  If your statements evaporate 2 weeks after you make them you can't be held accountable for who you were a decade ago and you have the opportunity to evolve as a human being.

Thanks, everyone!  The past couple weeks have been super exciting behind the scenes.  And if they (and we) can deliver on half the stuff that's been talked about it'll be a great 2019 for everyone!

We feel uniquely unsuited and ill equipped to handle this as a country right now - it’s stunning.
I honestly believe that America will be the hardest hit of any country by the time this is over. We started with a piss-poor healthcare system, we've responded glacially, we're anti-science and legendarily disunited. It's going to be bad.
