BlacKkKlansman - This is why I'm happy to be in Club Baldmove
I have to throw out a book recommendation because it relates so directly to the conversation. The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson is a history of the black experience in America post-slavery including share-cropping, Jim Crow, lynching etc. Its so poignant and devastating and yet also inspired me to be a more informed and active ally. After hearing the true history of Jim Crow and lynching in particular I realized my mostly-white public school education was woefully devoid of the true nature of our country post-slavery and pre-civil rights. How can we change the worst parts of ourselves if we don't first acknowledge them?
